Celebrate Aviation
National Aviation Day is celebrated on August 19th as a recognition of the development of Aviation. The date coincides with Orville Wright's birthday, and has been observed since 1939.
The designation is found in the United States Code TITLE 36, Subtitle I, Part A, CHAPTER 1, § 118, where it states:
The President may issue each year a proclamation
(1) designating August 19 as National Aviation Day;
(2) calling on United States Government officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on National Aviation Day; and
(3) inviting the people of the United States to observe National Aviation Day with appropriate exercises to further stimulate interest in aviation in the United States.
We have come a long way from that first flight, and it is still amazing to me to think that we have created a way to safely transport ourselves through the air at incredible speeds!
The sky is the limit
The first flight took place on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
