"Look up!"

I was at work the other day when I noticed hundreds of crows flying all around in the trees - and of course it reminded me of "The Birds", the classic Alfred Hitchcock film:

"An immense flock of birds descends upon a seacost town, makes it their nesting ground, and begins to attack and kill the townsfolk."

Run for your lives!!

What makes it a classic?

The story certainly isn't all that complex, but it is the simple idea behind it that makes it so frightening! What if the birds really did decide to attack! It is something that we would never expect, and if it were to happen, I don't know that we would have any idea what to do. The movie does an excellent job maintaining that suspense of "will it happen again"?

The setting adds to the appeal of the movie.  It was filmed at Bodega Bay in California in a beautiful area.  The calm setting only enhances the jarring nature of the strange, erratic behavior of the birds.

I also think the ending is fairly jarring - I won't ruin it for anyone, but it leaves you wondering....

Have you seen "The Birds"?
